William Todd is the moniker I use for my piano-based or ambient works. These pieces of music are often filled with longform polyrhythmic piano sections, analog synthesizers, heavy drone sections, and tape loops. The live performances are dramatic with focussed emphasis on the space between the notes. It showcases a cinematic and deeply introspective approach to the piano.

From a young age I became fascinated by the feeling of finding myself between consciousness and sleep. I learned as a teenager that this disorienting feeling can be recreated with the right amount of repetitiveness and drone. As a child I would lay on the floor a lot with my eyes closed for long periods of time just listening to the air flowing through the vents. I would call the landline telephone at my house with my father’s cell phone and let them feedback while they rest next to each of my ears. I would lay on the driveway for hours listening to the cars drive by and the wind in the trees. All of these things seem to mimic the hypnagogic state. This new side of composition is just as influenced by this fascination as those early experiences were.
